There is a lot about 6-6-06 all over the net and I have been reading a bit about it for months now.    Nothing will most probably happen or nothing more than the usual anyway.    But sort of the worst thing is too many are taking advantage of it.    But that is commercialism in America.    Mainly the movie The Omen will  be released today.    I did not like the first one made years ago, only saw a little of it on tv once.  

But here is an email I got and I wanted to post it somewhere and thought what better place than the Off Topic area here?     There is always something going on and during the summer it seems a lot more things happen, guess everyone is out of hibernation...

The email I got>
How many of you know this place exists?  Its a spot in the road about
20-25 miles north west of Ann Arbor.
I never was there but had heard about it. I forget how it came by the
name , but think there is a story connected to it.

THEY're definitely planning a hot time in Hell.
Today day bears the date of 6-6-06, abbreviated as 666 - the number
that, according to the Bible's Book of Revelation, signifies the beast,
or the antichrist, according to the apocalyptic theories.

And there is not a snowball's chance in Hell that the day will go
unnoticed in the unincorporated hamlet that carries the name 100km west
of Detroit.

Nobody is more fired up than John Colone, the town's self-styled mayor
and owner of a souvenir shop.

"I've got '666' T-shirts and mugs. I'm only ordering 666 (of the items)
so once they're gone, that's it," said Mr Colone, also known as Odum
Plenty. "Everyone who comes will get a letter of authenticity saying
you've celebrated June 6, 2006, in Hell."

Most of Mr Colone's wares will sell for $US6.66 ($8.86), including
deeds to one square inch of Hell.

Advertisement:
Live entertainment and a costume contest are planned. The Gates of Hell
should be installed at a children's play area in time for the
festivities.

"They're 8ft (2.4m) tall and 5ft (1.5m) wide and each gate looks like
flames, and when they're closed it's a devil's head," Mr Colone told
The Detroit News.

Mike "Smitty" Hickey, owner of the Dam Site Inn, was not sure what kind
of clientele would show up on the day.

"We're all about having fun here. I don't think we're going to get the
cult crowd, the devil-worshippers or anything like that," Mr Hickey
said.

The 666 revelry is just the latest chapter in the town's storied
history of publicity stunts, said Jason LeTeff, one of its 72
year-round residents - or, as the mayor calls them, Hellions or
Hell-billies.

But Mr LeTeff was not particularly enthusiastic. "Here I am living in
Hell, taking my kids to church and trying to teach them the right
things, and the town is having a 6-6-6 party," he said.

In the story I saw, either someone who was from there said "you can call it anything you want, even hell"  

[highlight]Or[/highlight] some Germans got off the stagecoach and something like "so shoene hell" (should that have been heil?--the one semester of German I nearly flunked doesn't help after all those years--supposed to be "bright and beautiful" anyway) and Hell was the part that stuck.

In any case the name dates from when Michigan became a state.

We've missed a couple of major disasters recently.

On (or about?) May 25th we didn't get a good-enough sized piece of a comet (comet??  I thought they were mostly ice and dust) in the Atlantic to set off a tsunami on its own--probably big enough to decimate the Gulf Coast a second time and set off the volcanoes in the eastern Atlantic, and tumble that big rock in the Canaries, causing more tsunamis for the western Atlantic from New England to Argentina.

If we'd gotten something big enough to set off the first wave (pun intended) the second would have happened, I expect, but....
