Thought I might pass this along.  Anyone that is using rough service type bulbs you might try using LED bulbs in their place.  I had been constantly replacing the bulbs in garage door openers.  Seems the vibration is too much for even rough service bulb elements over time.  LED's unlike conventional bulbs do not in essence have the same type of filaments as incandescent bulbs. I have several pieces of shop equipment that I am going test out with LED bulbs.  The idea of using these bulbs came after I had dropped a LED flashlight down a set of stairs.   d*  After bouncing end over end while lite they did not fail.  :)

I've had trouble with LED bulbs in cold weather.  They would start to flicker on and off at -10 or below temps.  Might have been that specific brand, but I moved back to incandescent for those.  The ones I used on the garage door does seem to be lasting longer though.

Adam I have had them in my outside lights for sometime but hadn't experienced that low temps yet.  Guess I will find out later.

I'll have to try one in my bench grinder, I gave up on that light years ago, the rough service bulbs couldn't handle the vibration... and it seems I need more and more light anymore. I do run fluorescent and led down in the shop, they don't do too well when I first kick them on this time of year till the woodstove warms it up a bit in there.

What kind of LED bulbs do we need to use?

Any A19 shape led bulb works for me.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.
