Title: Foundation costs
Post by: cedarglen on November 27, 2005, 07:43:09 PM
How much should I expect to pay for the foundation installation and materials on the 20x34 universal 2 story. I want to sub out the foundation work and do the rest myself. We are using poured concreet footings. There will be about 4 steps in the footings to follow the terrain.

We will also need to remove the existing foundation on the lot which is the same size and shape as the one going in. The previous house was burnt to the ground in a forest fire. How much should removal and disposal cost?

We are in a high cost California. Best guess estimates would be helpful.

Not a whole lot to go on as far as information about site - footing configuration etc.  I would guess $2000 to $4000 to tear it out and $4000 to $6000 to put it back - these numbers could be way off base depending on the above variables - who is available and what they charge.

Based on average 8" wall 3' deep  -possible wider base, concrete alone could run $1500 to $2500.  I don't know anything about your wall sizes and steps etc, so just pulled one out of the air. :-/

Concrete recyclers sometimes don't charge for disposal if the steel is out of it but hauling - removal etc could cost a lot.

Could you make it a DIY project with concrete block with reinforcement and grouted full?  Just an idea.

Could you use your urbanite?

i.e., used concrete (without steel much better) used instead of stones.

IIRC the old Denver airport was considered a major windfall by natural builders.

I has not thought of it byt the crushed cement would make good erosion controling gravel, but wouldn't cost a lot to break it up?

Usually recycling concrete consists of Bobcat, backhoe, or excavator mounted demolition hammer then to a dump truck then to a crusher.  Large chunks can be stacked for low retaining walls etc. rather than sent to the crusher.

After recrushing - yep-- you get to buy it again or someone else does. :)
