I am looking into options for a home/cabin for our farm. I was looking into the wood, vinyl or metal storage buildings & convert it to a cabin. I've found a wood 14x36 barn style that has the 8' side walls, what would be my options as far as putting it on a permanent foundation to make it more stable. Any ideas as to how difficult or structurally wise to connect a second building to the cabin in the future. I am wanting the 14x36 to have a kitchen living room & small bath then the add ons to be a bedroom or two. The area is very rural & will require no inspections or permits.

Bet you can build it cheaper than you can buy a new one ;)

Most of the storage buildings I have looked at are not very well built.

I could be wrong, but I've never liked depending on those metal plate connections I've seen in the storage buildings with barn roofs. At least not with the thought of living under one of those roofs. I guess I'm a traditionalist.  ???

We looked into them and decided to stick build our own cabin.

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.
