Well.... that's just dandy!
I just got email from myself offering a 70% discount on something or the other...... ???

Ain't technology grand :-\

Yesterday, I got mail from PayPal telling me someone was fraudulently using my account and to log in to my account (Link Provided ) and re enter my information.
Problem with that is, I don't have a PayPal account.....never had and never will.

I get crap like that all the time and it makes it through the spam filter. I don't open anything I don't recognize. I believe that is where viruses get planted. I go to my ISP providers web page and review my e-mails before choosing which one's will make it to my Outlook program and actually get onto my hard drive. I try to be as careful as I know how to be. Anyway that is how I do it. There are too many jerks in the world who dervie some kind of pleasure from messing up people they don't even know, I guess just to see if they can.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.

Yep. Peter, I too have noticed I'm spamming myself lately.  :o ???

And also I've been experiencing a new wave of "Nigerian" type spam. Haven't had any of those for some time.

Just figure that most legitimate companies you belong to won't use the e-mail and any company that is legit, will use a secure server to verify information so the address bar at the top will turn green at the top and the address will be an https (secure) rather than an http (unsecure)  If in doubt don't fill it out.  I never trust them.

As annoying as spam is, one great thing about owning a Mac is practically never having to worry about viruses.. :)

I have used Spamcop.net for years as a reporting tool. I can't say how much good it does, but it makes me feel better at times. They've been around for about ten years now.

I'd end up wasting too much time tweaking it and downloading software... :)

I started getting e-mails that are scooting past my spam filter that appear to be written in Russian or some language I don't recognize. Anyone lese getting this kind of stuff? Once again I delete without opening.

It seems like my internet service is slower all of the time these days too.

Are you running spyware/adware removers once in a while, desdawg?  Eventually adware will totally lock up your computer.

I have Norton Anti Virus which does a periodic full system scan and automatic updates. Usually when the scan is complete I have one low risk tracking cookie from somewhere, Yahoo I expect. I have a Yahoo home page.

I would also try Spybot Search and Destroy just in case.

If it finds something I would try another also such as lavasoft AdAware.  Free  stuff -- watch out for impostors.
