I've been a lurker for a year now and this seems like as good a place as any to come out of the background.  I have to agree with Sassy that the natural views must be preserved. So many places have nothing to look at so it just doesn't seem right to spoil the natural view. That's not to say there is not a place for old machinery and parts. But the underground barn that altaoaks mentioned seems like a more appropriate location. :)

Hey Glen, when are you starting the thread for the underground barn, you know it would be a great place of prominence, and a man cave to boot!

Seriously, i was not kidding, it would be a great compliment to the underground cabin!  I hope i can see your place some day, i really love the concept.  makes me think about the Forester Underground Gardens in Fresno, that place blows my mind!

Sassy would probaly love a big barn also!

Hmmm ... I have been thinking barn but I have not been thinking underground...... maybe I need to.....

Yes --- the Forestierre Underground Gardens.  I actually drilled the well that saved the place from being closed down and possibly sold as a shopping center and parking lot.  The uncle wanted the two million dollars.  The grandkids wanted to preserve history.  I snuck in - did a "repair" before getting caught and had them back in operation able to irrigate their plants and trees before the city or county got out to check out the uncles complaint.  We were told we could not do that again but then... we did not need to.  [waiting]

The uncle was not too happy.....

And Hi everyone

Hi Carla... I feel so ganged up on by the ladies.....   :(

Thanks for your input.... I guess I must comply and give Sassy her space......

She is buying some flowers to plant in my last compromise space with her today... I must build a rock wall around the swing area with only [one] tractor.... [ouch]

Underground barn... seems it must be a place for underground cows..... I suppose if they were ground cows we would all be having hamburgers.....  [waiting]

[bbq]

That was really a dumb one huh.... ???

Ganged up on?  I'm sure you like all the attention.  :)

I love ground grass fed cows,,,  with mushrooms :)  from the underground garden of course ???

glenn kangiser

..but of course.... :)

Our cows are grass fed but I want them to be a bit marbled so am trying to get a bit of grain into Beefsteak, the steer too.

Problem is they are now all grain junkies so I have to give the rest some too then try to outsmart the cow with small piles of grain here and there then get Beefsteak time to munch his down while I divert her attention.  [ouch]

Not much grass this year anyway so they all need a bit of a supplement.

You know that one little area that is open to the view that Glenn tried to put his "water heater" in the way?  There is now a 7 ft high 10 ft wide pile of horse manure in the way  [noidea' [waiting]  But, we'll hopefully be using it for the gardens soon & it should really help all the veggies grow  :)

BTW, the rock wall looks nice - its around 35 ft long.  Now to get some flowers planted.

It wasn't a water heater....

It was a boiler.....an ancient historic steam engine boiler.......a very significant difference...... [waiting]

Yes, he likes attention...

btw,  w*  Carla...  thanks for the support - a girl has to protect her interest, ya know...

altaoaks, I have lived in the area for a good part of my life & have never been to Forestierre Gardens...  seems like you don't see the local stuff unless you have out-of-town quests.

I was supposed to take her there some time but it seems they are not open when we go by or don't have time if they are.... [ouch]

... by the way... under one of the holes in the ground into the underground garden, sat a nice large old antique gas engine that Mr Baldisare Forestierre felt was a significantly beautiful enough piece that it was allowed to dominate the entire room.  Seems it ran a pump or generator - can't remember.  I tried to deal them out of it but never managed to get it from them.   [waiting]

Hi Carla_M,  w* d* c*, Thank You for the back-up!  I'll return the favor someday.  Great to have another woman onboard with a great sense of humor.

Glen, thats a great story about the well at Forestierres, I cannot imagine losing that treasure.  And I loved the old gas engine!   I just marveled at the concept of that place period.  I think its one of the most unbelieveablly beautiful places i have ever seen.

Sassy, you must go there, you won't regret it!  Sorry about the wall of manure, but out of crap comes beauty?  Sounds like you will be very busy planting.  Hopefully winter doesn't come late, hmmm, but some rain would be nice.  Remember last winter, we were in 4 wheel drive on I-80 until we hit Colfax on June 30!  Winter got us good last year, and has chosen thus far to skip us this year.  Flowers are going to hate that, grass for the hay burners not so good either!

Gotcha thinkin bout that underground barn, Glen?  It would be very complimentary to the cabin, and think of all the good stuff you could put in there!

glenn kangiser

Quoteout of crap comes beauty?

That is a little harsh I think but...... yes, Sassy agrees that sometimes I make things of beauty...... [waiting]

I am seeing a bit of dangerous (for me) comradery developing here.  So far the women are all supporting each other and none of the guys have chipped in to support me on this page.   Bunch of chickens....

Its OK guys... I can handle it.

Yes - I did the well there... the Underground Garden.  I was going to repair it quickly and get out of there.  Dropped the bailer down the hole and the old well shortly collapsed.  It was done about the '40s I would guess with the California stovepipe method.  Riveted sections of tin pipe holding back the sand - they nearly always are unrepairable.  I quickly moved over a few feet - dropped an oversize conductor into the ground and said OK ... this is the well we are repairing and proceeded to make the repairs a few feet from the original.  That has been many years back now ---- nobody reads this anyway..... :)

I am going to think more on the barn though it may turn out to be a building for the Huntington mill.  We need a taller above ground barn of sorts as a privacy screen for the new neighbors.  Nice people and while the only neighbors within 1/4 mile or so I am sure they don't want to watch our activities.  There is a good space petween us along with the cows.  They love the cows so we are all good.  :)

Glenn I attempted to come to your aide but Ellen took my lap top and locked in the gun safe.  She never has let me have the combination.  I get so challenged left 4 times then right three times and that is never right.  Then the two to the left and back to zero.  Next one is going to be electronic.

OK Rick.... I understand and forgive you....  [ouch]

That combination thing sounds like something only a woman could master... you know us guys are no good with numbers.... [waiting]

....Brownie points please ladies.... [noidea'

Sassy

Altaoaks, the underground barn will have to wait a bit until we get some more of the cabin finished so don't encourage him too much on that or I'll think you have gone over to the dark side   [waiting]  It is a good future idea.

I also like what Glenn wants to do for the Huntington Mill.  He is easily distracted by many things so I have to be the one to keep him on task  ::)  You know how men are.

And Rick, I think your wife has the right idea  heh heh  I've never had that much control over Glenn  :-\

I love the stuff Glenn builds & all his creative ideas  :)  There are a few times I have to say  n* n* but in most cases he's amazing  ;D

Yes, the horse manure is good  :D  I just had to throw that in about the huge pile blocking the view  ;)  Can't let Glenn rest too easy.

I must point out that Sassy usually buys the dog food, and in my favor, horse manure makes a great food of choice for 4 ravenous hungry dogs..... [waiting]

25000 lbs of it should hold them over for a while.  [noidea'

I have to agree with Glenn for once  [frus] Rust makes a nice center piece in most "Natural Veiws"

glenn kangiser

mtman, I also do not see them giving an inch but Whitlock just confirmed..as I suspected..... I am right.... [waiting]

I was wrong once though .... I have to admit it.  I doubted my judgement about what looks good, but I quickly recovered and got that corrected.....

Now I just have to say things because I think they are the right thing to say.... If only I can get better at catching the subtle hints... hmm

Like ... I don't think it would look good with two tractors there.   n*

It means.....

"Don't you freakin' put that second tractor there because you were lucky to get me to agree to let you put the first one there out of the line of sight for the view of the valley...... " [slap]

Yeah.... I'm getting it.... heh

Ahhhh, he's starting to get it   heh heh

But he did put a nice rock wall in so I can plant flowers & veggies to showcase his tractor  ;)

So like.....what pile of manure?  [noidea'

Tractors ... yeah... I guess this second choice place will do.....  [waiting]

Doesn't look that bad I guess.....

Kinda goes with my old saws and miscellaneous unnatural resources eh?

But only one by the swing and new rock wall hmm   Sure could use another....   heh

Well... speaking of Brownie Points..... I was an extremely good boy last night so Sassy made me a nice Omelet with Fresh Eggs from our Chickens, Fresh Broccoli, Tomatoes, Onions  and Swiss Chard from our garden.  Yea for Glenn.... :)

Got my Baker Creek Heirloom seed catalog today - beat up well by the USPO but a very nice catalog.  Got a seed order from them last week - about twice the seed for half the price.  A great place to buy.

http://rareseeds.com/

Planted around 500 onion seedling transplants today too.  :)

Last but not least ... to bee or not to bee... that is the question....

That picture of you loading the old tractor onto the trailer is awesome!  It's always nice to have the right tools for the job. [cool]
