The links break if they are anywhere else than where they are at present

Wow:

I'm glad muldoon knows how to do this stuff!

Maybe a photobucket Pro account can be setup so that we can have a folder we can put these into (and redirect the urls to..) I've got an email request into PB.

I have all the pages with images saved as html, if we can figure out how to use them easily...

The issue with the archived images is connecting them to the links in each post where they appear. Each post has the path to the image as it presently sits. Each of those would need editing....

OR  it may be possible to so a redirect command on the server somehow that would redirect the image link to the new location. No idea how to do that myself.

It would be some sort of a database edit where *oldserver/filename* > *newserver/filename*. I think muldoon can be more helpful with the specifics on how to accomplish it

I don't know about John, but I can not do that.  I know nothing about SQL databases other than that
they exist
they make things like this function
they are big files
if messed up, you're messed up.....

All Pics will be removed at the end of the week. If you want them grab them while you can. Thanks Country plans it was fun. I'm going offline.

I'm probably crazy, but when I read that last line I had a terrible thought. I hope that going offline means just that, a return to a simpler way of life, closing down the internet account and as a result losing the place where the images have been stored. Or is there a hidden meaning and something godawful is being planned? Is this one of those I never thought he'd do that moments? I hope not, but I have personally missed a similar verbal clue with someone who was dear to me. Absolutely hope I'm wrong but I don't know what I can do. Forum users are pretty well hidden if they want to be.

Sorry to see you go.

I really enjoyed following your build thread.
Give me a place to stand and a lever long enough,  and I will move the world.

My internet was down yesterday.  I also archived all of the pix and sub-folder pix as well as a text copy of the topic (print - select all - copy - save to MS word doc - has pix names and locations to ref back to the old names. )

As Don says - looks like a manual reconstruct unless someone else knows something better - at least we have the critical info.  Thanks for the warning, Scott.  It has been an honor having you here.   :(

Thanks so much for all of the hard work you went to sharing this with us.  We really enjoy and enjoyed it.

This should help

http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-find-and-replace-text-in-mysql-database-using-sql/

Just need to replace *http://www.brightok.net/~cyscott1-ss/pics/* with *https://www.photobucket.com/new_folder_name/* and keep all the same file names.

muldoon

it looks like all the images have been moved to photobucket and the links in this thread have been updated to point to them.  I do not think this thread is in any risk of being lost.

Scott, best wishes to you.  I have watched this thread since before I joined.  It was my motivation for joining and launching on my own journey.  I am sorry to see you go but I understand when it's time it's time.  Feel free to come back whenever you want.  I'll be on the lookout for a new user with a Bruce Willis avatar giving sage advice.

I wish the best of health and luck to you and your family.

Thanks to everyone (especially MtnDon and Muldoon) for the clever digital alchemy and for helping to preserve the story of this fine project.

Best wishes to Scott and any new adventures his future holds.

So long Scott!  We will miss you around here for sure... :(

We'll miss you Scott  :(  You did such a beautiful job on your cabin - creative ideas, off-topic discussions.  I wish you the best...

What does it mean where the OP's line now says "no edits?"  With other forums in which I participate, the posts can only be edited for about a day for this very reason.  We now have a 40 page thread worth zero as the OP apparently took his ball and went home or maybe I missed something since no explanation was given.  Seems odd to show it all off presumably to get feedback and then decide to pull out as if all he wanted was information, but now is not willing to share the final product??  I guess if the pics are hosted elsewhere there is no way of stopping that from being deleted.

MountainDon

the "no edits" usually signifies we took that action because of some difficulty between member and management.

In this case the member was closing the site where the images were posted. We saved all the images and had them linked from a photobucket account. It was working and the images are still in photobucket but something has broken, not sure what or of it's easy to correct at this point.  There is a way to get the image url and copy it (open message with "quote" feature, copy url (http://..............thruto   .jpg) and paste in new window or tab. The images are there. Once that is done the images will show in that post. But if you close the browser and try again it may not link back. I haven't a clue as to why.

still puzzled but this link should allow anyone to view the pictures only

Hi all the cabin is still standing. My wife died last year but I'm still here at deer run.

Mike 870

Sorry to hear about your wife Scott.  Your project is one of my favorites on here.  Reminds me of the CP glory days of logging on and seeing like 20 different build  updates to read about.  Glad to hear it is still standing and you are still getting enjoyment from it.
