Vertical logs are pretty nice.  Although if I ever do one again I'll mill the sides of the logs--there's a topic somewhere, with two pros weighing in--one wrote the book(let) that I used.  Also in owner-builder projects (Amanda's)

And I'd bet there are a bunch of other types.  Some probably local to parts of Georgia.

Logs, especially green logs are really really heavy.

Debarking logs can be a screaming pain--especially if you're using mixed lumber.  Poplar is easy.  I gather that pine isn't hard.  But hickory and oak--oops.

I'm no electrician but I believe electrical plugs in the floor (as mentioned a few posts ago) doesn't meet code (here in NS). If code is a concern  you might want check it out in your area if you haven't already. I say this because I did it as an easy fix when I removed a wall and a friend with building experience (also not an electrician) told me it was illegal....but then again what isn't?!!

QuoteJust hammer a dowel into it with a bit of glue and trim it off smooth - maybe with one of those little Japanese saws- It will look like you meant to do it.  Part of being a pro is learning how to very cool-ly hide your mistakes. :-/
My electronic projects always had lots of "ventilation"holes.   ;D

They make electical boxes, etc. specifically for floor installation in our area. They are very expensive ($10) compared to $1.50 for a regular plastic box. Some area's may not allow them.

Around here (NM) I see floor boxes in some new commercial construction. They usually have brass cover plates with little hinged flaps  or screwin plugs (I'd never find the plugs) to cover the receptacle when not in use.

If you are using round log that are going to require a bunch of chinking anyway, you could run your wires (armored cable sounds like the best way) down from the ceiling (i.e., normally) and cover it with chinking.

A straw bale chapel, built to code, that I know of near Nashville buried the armored cable in "stucco"--two inches of sprayed-on concrete.  It was pretty easy to wire.

Hunter, where are the Amish that built your house and how can I get in touch with them? Loooove your house!
