Definitely sounds interesting.  [ouch]

I assume as Rick said that it would deafen them if it missed and they would no longer be able to hear the vegetables growing so therefore would not be a problem. [noidea'

If you where attempting to sell your house design or be in the business of building that style of house it would be beneficial. But seeing most folks want to be DIY'er on that type of house you prolly right to be wary.

Now on the part about "no one pays attention" cry me a river shipmate , this is the longest running , highest post count , highest viewed thread on the forum isn't ?  What more do you need , worship at the alter of Glenn??  [waiting] [rofl2]
When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

[rofl2] PEG, you're killing me.  You want me to destroy my computer with coffee?   c*

We went to see our International student friends and son in LA last weekend.  The International Students who we host for the visit to Yosemite often come from countries where beliefs are oppressed and supplanted with national loyalties.  On Sunday after the trip they are offered a chance to attend a service with their friends and a potluck dinner afterward or not as they choose.

One of our house guests at the Underground Complex who we had talked to stayed in contact email and stated he came from a country with no beliefs.  We answered many questions afterward.  Unknown to us he went back - joined a choir and sent us a message last week he was going to get baptized.  We decided that was a good opportunity to go down for a visit to him and more of our friends and family.  As we always tell them, they are our extended family.  We will not look down on them because most of them have a couple of PH.D.s and we don't... (That was a joke ... here is the closest I will get to higher education).

Our friend Feng took us to his college, USC where he does Post Doctoral research along with his friend Qinghua who also stayed at our house with his wife, Wendy.   I sing a few lines of the Beach Boys, Wendy to her whenever I see her....  missed her this time as she is going to be going through a bout of morning sickness for a while... [ouch]

We sent a gift for the new coming baby while we were there though.  :)

They treated us like visiting Royalty.

Feng arranged a surprise dinner reservation for us at the best Italian restaurant in Santa Monica, then would not let us chip in and pay for part of the dinner. Above Feng, my son, Simon and his girl friend, Selena...

Qinghua came also and brought us a gift though poor Wendy was still feeling ill and had to remain home.  We introduced all of them to our friend Wei from UCLA, a Biomedical Engineer who has not been to our house yet but did go on the hike to Yosemite the week after USC visited us last year.  He is the one we met in SF last year and toured the high tech companies as well as SF.  He also does research at UCLA and has a patent for a process involved with making oil from algae as I recall..... He gives speeches at other colleges and teaches undergrads.  Yet he will still hang out with us. [noidea'

Here is a pix of moi, Sassy, Qinghua and Wei at the dinner....

We had a wonderful time talking to all of them, walking Santa Monica Blvd and 3rd Street listening to great Musicians and just hanging out....

More adventure to come as Feng takes us to a real Chinese restaurant on Sunday and feeds us unknown foods....then we head off to Watts to see the Watts Towers from one of my forum topic memories (we just touched on it in reference to poor man's Gaudi) ...... and Wei invites us over for a special dinner he with Jingyi cooked special for us...

Wei had about 600 tests to correct and Jingyi had about 200 to correct for their students before having time to play with us... (besides teaching himself to play Mozart, etc. he also likes to gourmet cook... :)

...stay tuned for the continuing saga of Glenn and Sassy do LA... [waiting]

On Saturday, Wei took us and Feng on a tour of UCLA and his mad scientist lab... looks just like you might think of it though I did not take a pix of the lab itself.. who knows what lurks there?   [noidea'

Lots of cool old buildings there....

and time with good friends.

Sunday Feng took Sassy and yours truly, touring USC and LA during the few hours he had to spare..... you would think we were diplomats....

They take the term "extended family" to the extreme as we like to do also.  [ouch]

Rival colleges but still best of friends.  Can we all get along? (Rodney King April 29, 1992) :)

Sassy had asked Feng if he knew of good Chinese Food places. [noidea'

Of course our Former Underground Complex guests and extended family members only consider fulfilling requests in the best way they know how..... :)

Yes---- 20 miles away... and he proceeded to load us up and take us to Alhambra.... good food and low prices.. I was surprised at the price..

Here we are waiting for the food to arrive....

Ahhh yes.. a nice big plate of squid..

Actually I have been eating squid for years and really like it, though the first time was on a dare.... it is great though....

....next... the nice platter full of chicken feet.... I think they walked to the table themselves.... [scared]

Sassy chowed right down on them.....  [hungry]

I had a bit more trepidation though....  [scared]

They kind of reminded me of baby hands....  [noidea'

...and last but not least....

...a nice heaping plate of beef ...............stomach....

OK... I know Mexicans eat it in menudo and love it but I never ate menudo either....

The longer I chewed it the bigger it got..... kind of like a miracle..... providing enough beef stomach to feed the masses of thousands gathered around...right there in my mouth..... OK ... it really wasn't that bad...a bit chewy but I got a big ol' hunk of it down.  [waiting]

Feng just wanted us to have the fullest Genuine Chinese food dining experience we could in the short time we had and he sat there eating and laughing through the whole thing.  Thanks for the great meal Feng.... it was a real new experience for us.  :)

We really are extremely grateful to our extended family kids for taking such great care of us on our visit to see them.  [cool]

Thanks for the great photos. I feel like I almost had lunch with you all... Almost....

I think I would still want to eat something that "tastes like chicken".
None of us are as smart as all of us.

glenn kangiser

I love taking pictures of my food, John as do a few of our friends.  Not  a problem.  :)

I think I have you covered on the tastes like chicken here, John... [noidea'

No...that wasn't it... that was the Eggplant....

A bit closer..... that was the Dim Sum... Shrimp Dumplings... getting back to normal there almost... [waiting]

...but wait, this should do it.....  The wonderful Duck dish... Tastes a lot like chicken... [hungry]

It really was a wonderful meal... had some Sesame dumplings of some sort also

We were so stuffed we allowed Feng to take the extra Chicken Feet home with him for a midnight snack.... ;)

I love an authentic Chinese meal, I've been eating chicken feet most of my life.

Here is a photo of my better half enjoying some chicken :D

glenn kangiser

Wow... real chicken....

Looks like she's about to enjoy it anyway.  :)

I haven't quite got the craving for chicken feet down yet... [waiting]

pmichealson, you are brave!  I worked w/a lot of Asians who loved chicken feet & thousand year eggs & balot.  Balot is half formed chickens in the egg that some people eat,,,  don't think that is one dish I would eat  :D
http://megamunch.blogspot.com/2007/11/partially-formed-chicken-fetuses-taste.html

The chicken feet - well, lets just say it was a once in a lifetime experience  [waiting]  The rest of the food was exquisitely delicious!

Feng & 9 others from his church were baptized on Sunday & they were all given a bouquet of flowers - he was so sweet & gave me the bouquet  :)

I love flowers!

Maybe this will work for you, John.  [noidea'

I was talking with Jingyi about some Saffron Rice I made and she told me of Coconut Rice.

I looked it up and found a recipe for  Easy Thai Coconut Rice.  Had to try it out.  [ouch]

http://thaifood.about.com/od/thaisnacks/r/thaicoconutrice.htm  Try it?

That should be safe for you... no odd animal parts or anything in there.... [waiting]

That baby chick is really colorful ...and I'll bet tender... hmm

Great find - I love both coconut and rice. I'll try it... and I bet it would go well with one of the only dishes I know how to make, a stir fry curry that uses tofu when there are vegetarians around and chicken when it's just Miriam and I.

My son was the one who said he wouldn't eat anything with a face on it. That was at age 10, now he eats everything!

glenn kangiser

Glad we finally found something you could eat, John... I was beginning to worry about you.  [waiting]

The recipe said it goes well with Asian and Indian dishes.  That should work out well I think.  :)

Speaking of eggs....

I tossed the first chicken out of the pen who went to peck at an egg shell I put in there the other day after finding more broken ones.  I think she was the only one breaking them as I got four eggs yesterday plus one I stepped on - laid under the feeder, and I got three today.

The chicken didn't fare so well.  Third night out I think it was and this morning I just found a pile of Barred Rock feathers..... [scared]

Bobcat, coyote or something is well fed today anyway and we are getting eggs again. [ouch]

Sassy made some Heirloom  Yellow Cylindrical Beets and Swiss Chard (both from our garden) for dinner tonight,  [hungry]

I planted these February 7th and a couple of them got up to about 1 1/4 inches diameter so we had to try them.  :)

Nothing like freshly killed beets from the garden... they were good ...even though small.  Yummy   [waiting]

Oh yeah... from  www.rareseeds.com   Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.  My favorite place for about twice the seeds for half the price....compared to a lot of the others.  [ouch]

Feng had an extra hour or two before he had to go to an evening celebration, so we wanted to figure out something cool to do after the great Chinese food Dinner..... besides, the chicken foot and squid in my stomach wanted to do a little walking and loose an extra pound or two after the great meal.

I remembered Watts Towers from a discussion on our forum here.  Kind of a miniature Gaudi from 1954 and earlier... [idea]

Located in the Watts area of LA, we found it to be a nicely kept area and while we did not meet a lot of people there the ones we met were friendly.

The park is not opened all of the time but has a wrought Iron fence and nice self guided tour info posted.

Another shot...

A bit more of the story, a few more pix then we were in a rush to get back to our appointment for Dinner with Wei and Jingyi before heading back to the Underground Complex.

More on my FB Watts Towers album.

A builder, a gardener, a cook, and a tour guide....

And then you do all these photos and blog posts.

I'm honored to be able to come along for the ride. :D :D

Feng mentioned that 99% of his friends had never heard of the Watts Towers and many of them had lived in LA for years[ouch]

....and somehow I heard of it here.

Don't remember exactly how.....my research or someone elses?....  [noidea'

Also... speaking of gardens ...snapped a pix of the garden this morning - I think this stuff was started in February for the most part.

Doing pretty good.  Turnips about ready to start munching on too.... :)

...and caught 2 gophers today.... fed them to the dogs.  It is full on war with them this year as they have eaten about 1/3 of my onions so far.  I will not tolerate it....willingly... [waiting]

....and got 3 eggs today... no more broken ones...and that egg eating hen is cackling above some cloud in that great hen house in the sky..... [scared]

I wonder if chickens have a Hell for egg eating chickens.... [noidea'

I wonder if it would look like a Costco Rotisserie? ???

Posting to the forum has gotten a bit easier with the Samsung Note, John.  I can take a good picture with it (as the one right above), then upload it directly to Photobucket from the Note.  It is ready to post when I get back or I could do it from the Note too I think if I had time.  :)

More pix from the Note from a few days ago.  Time for a quick  review of what I think is the easiest way to do drip irrigation. [idea]

Timer - I like the Raindrip Analog timer - easy to set - batteries about one time a year - 2 AAA.  One knob for duration - one for frequency.  That is it.  No programming senseless confusing computers.  Just a split second for changes.  Drip requires a pressure reducer to 15 lbs.  It screws on before the timer and also I like to put an inline filter.

Forgot pix of them.  Let me know if you want to see them.  [ouch]

I am going exclusively to drip tape wherever I can.  Cheap and efficient.  :)
