John's CountryPlans.com and it's forum are my number one destination on the web.  I like it, and the people, so much I am concerned that one day if it would disapear, where would I find a group of great people like this again?

Would it be bad for me to ask right here what other communities I might find on line besides countryplans where there are similar gatherings of great people like are here?  I'd like to have a backup!

I don't have any to recommend with a similar gathering of people. NONE of these sites has the personality and caring of CountryPlans.com, but the one's I do go to for ideas on building or fixing:

I have to recommend
http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/index.php
Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums - Powered by vBulletin

as a similar type forum for Dodge trucks -- jerks not allowed-- as the founder was kind enough to take the time to respond to my questions when we were having problems with the YaBB software losing parts of our forum.

That forum has saved me thousands of dollars on my truck by allowing me to do things I would not have known about otherwise including getting a $1000 check back from Cummins toward a defective block casting.

His suggestion of the SMF got us straightened out pretty painlessly.

I don't spend much time in other building forums.

This is not building related but still of use to our members if they happen to have a Dodge Diesel truck.:)

Here are a couple more that I have dealt with.  But none have the personality of
this forum.  Seems like they are too much buisness like. And there are no topics like posted here.  I just think it is a great site.  I have all but abandoned the others.  Still visit daily for topics that I may lend a hand with though.

I've passed this one on to you all before, but I got alot of help installing and maintaining my wood stove at www.hearth.com . And once in a blue moon I check out www.hammerzone.com for building and remodeling tips. They have alot of actual photos of projects, but I still always go to our beloved forum here when I need help. You all are GREAT......jb

I just came across http://www.doityourself.com/ and thought it was worth mentioning, so I searched the forum for it and found that someone already had.
So I did the next best thing and pulled it up near the top of the pile again.

My "Other" favorite is TractorsByNet.com, and specifically their Projects forum http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/projects/
It's not just about tractors, but all kinds of DIY building projects.

Don't know if you'd call this a community, but I get lots of good advice on electronics from www.fixya.com.  If your printer or computer doesn't work and the manual is junk, this place is #1.
